Jamie Reed MP, Member of Parliament for Copeland has welcomed Labour’s guarantee for 25 hours of free child care for preschool children. He said:
“When prices have risen faster than wages in 38 of the 39 months that David Cameron has been in Downing Street, and when working people are around £1,500 a year worse off due to the Tory-led Government’s damaging economic failures, the announcement of free child care for almost 4000 Cumbrian children will be welcomed by many families who are struggling to make ends meet.
“Hard working families will have the certainty and security of consistent, high quality child care to allow them the flexibility to balance family life with their working hours.
“Yesterday, Labour set out how they will deliver guaranteed child care for primary school children between 8am to 6pm and today the Shadow Chancellor went further to guarantee 25 hours of free child care for 3 and 4 year olds.
“When the Government is putting up barriers that create uncertainty in work and family life, I know that people in Cumbria will welcome today’s pledge to ease pressure and give families the resources they need to be able to plan their work/life balance with peace of mind.”
