Reacting to the news that Monitor has placed University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay Trust into special measures following the Care Quality Commissions investigation, Copeland MP and Labour’s Shadow Health Minister, Jamie Reed said:
“It is clear that the Trust has not performed. From overall governance to patient experience, major improvements need to be made.
“David Cameron’s chaotic reorganisation of the NHS has starved precious resources from front line patient care and it is obvious that Trusts throughout the country are struggling because of this.
“The failings at Morecambe Bay Trust must be addressed as soon as possible. When North Cumbria Trust was placed in special measures, despite considerable pressure from me and many healthcare professionals, little support from the Government was forthcoming. This cannot happen again. What Morecambe Bay needs now is help and guidance from Government and the resources to be able to put things right.
“More of the Government’s deafening silence and crippling inaction cannot be tolerated. While the Government turns its back, patients are paying the price.”
