The operators of the government-owned Eskmeals Range, QinetiQ, have announced that 46 employees out of a total of 80 will be made redundant.
Copeland MP, Jamie Reed said:
“Those affected by these job losses will be devastated and this will have a profound impact on the local community.
“The timing of this announcement, just a fortnight after Christmas, is a kick in the teeth to those who work at Eskmeals. I will be urgently seeking talks with QinetiQ to discuss these job losses and I will also be speaking with the workforce at the range to see what can be done to support them.
“QinetiQ have said that other positions within the company will be available to those laid-off, but they must ensure that these jobs are within the community otherwise this is essentially an empty promise.
“The Government must now be clear about what it intends to do to support those whose jobs they are cutting, these job losses are frankly unacceptable. I intend to raise this issue in Parliament and will continue to do everything within my power to support the workers involved.”
