Copeland MP Calls for Hospital Talks

Following reports that senior A&E consultants would quit North Cumbria University Hospitals Trust  Jamie Reed MP has offered to facilitate talks between the doctors and North Cumbria University Hospitals Trust in order to reach a solution.
Copeland MP, Jamie Reed said:
“Everybody in West Cumbria wants to see health care in North & West Cumbria improve.  These are services that we all rely on.  The Trust is making some improvements, but the recent report by the Care Quality Commission shows there is much more to be done, not least in regards to increasing the number of medical staff.
“Doctors and nurses are working incredibly hard in trying circumstances to provide high quality care for patients, but now staff and the Trust must get round the table to sort this dispute.  We need to work together to find the best solution for patients – and the public needs to know what the points of disagreement are, not kept in the dark.
“No one wants to see experienced medical staff leaving the hospital, especially at a time of a recruitment crisis.  Our top priority should be patient care, so I am writing to the Trust to offer to facilitate discussions between them and staff so we can work together to improve the hospital, retain staff and improve care.”
